The Beaver State

This past weekend, I took my first official trip up to Oregon.  I had only been there once before, as I was driving through up to Washington, so it didn't really count because all I did was stop for gas.  I was really excited to get the chance to visit a new place.

I flew into Portland, which is in the northern part of Oregon, right near the state of Washington.  From there, I went to Salem, which is the capital of Oregon, and is right on the Willamette River.

I think that Oregon is the greenest state I've ever visited!

In Salem, I visited a historic carousel and took a quick ride.

The main reason for the trip to Oregon was to attend a wedding.  It was held at a winery (a place where wine is made), which was surrounded by vineyards (where grapes are grown).

It was a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception (the big party afterwards).  However, the Best Dog, Harvey, did get a little tired though.  I don't think that he was all that excited by the wedding.  Maybe he didn't like getting dressed up!

The next day, it was time to leave Salem to head back to Portland.  Before getting on my flight, I took a quick trip into downtown Portland to visit a famous bookstore called Powell's.  It is, without a doubt, the biggest bookstore I have ever been in, and I believe it might actually be the biggest bookstore in the world!   I actually even got a little bit lost!  There are several Powell's bookstores, but this is the biggest and the original.  They have over 1 million books for sale, and the official name is Powell's City of Books.  There are 9 rooms, each painted in a different color, to help shoppers find what they are looking for.

The weekend simply flew by, and it was time to head home again.  I can't wait to take another trip to Oregon and do more exploring!

There wasn't enough time and just too much to look at! I would've had more time to shop if I hadn't gotten lost in the store!

I think Oregon is a fun place for two reasons. One,it's awesome. Two, there's no tax, so that's one place my dad is actually happy. And on my visit, I visited Klamath Falls and Crater Lake. It was a three day trip!
