Smurfs!

As I was out shopping yesterday, I got a glimpse of this at the mall:

Do you know what it is?  It's a Smurf!  This was a giant advertisement to promote the new movie "The Smurfs", which comes out next month. When I say that it was giant, I mean giant-- more than two stories tall!   I took this picture from the very bottom, so you can kind of see how high it goes.  The Smurfs have quite a long history and bring back many fond memories for me.

Originally, it all started as a comic book series in Belgium by a cartoonist called Peyo.  It was originally written in French before it became an American cartoon.

"The Smurfs" has a cast of characters who all live in Smurf Village and are lead by Papa Smurf.  The Smurfs are constantly trying to avoid capture by the evil Gargamel, the one human that regularly appears.  You can read more about the different Smurfs at the official Smurf website

This was one of my favorite cartoons when I was little.  I remember that my mom would even record it for me when it was on t.v.  There was even a Smurf cereal, which was delicious!

I'm looking forward to the new movie coming out, in which the Smurfs go to New York City.  It looks pretty entertaining!  Check out more information on the movie at Smurf Happens.  Are you going to go and see this movie?  If you do, I'd love to hear your opinion on it!
