Baby Boom!
There are a whole bunch of new joeys at Dreamworld in Australia-- 11 new babies, in fact!
After they are born, koala joeys spend an additional six months in their mothers' pouches before they are ready to come out on their own. That is because they are born hairless, blind, and earless. These little guys are about 5 months old, and almost ready to venture out into the world. For now, they are just happy observing what is going on from the safety of their mothers' pouches. After the first six months, they will spend another six months hanging out on their mothers' backs.
I think this little guy just woke up from a nap.
Curious baby.
Just so tired! Needs a nap!
Dreamworld is an amusement park and a zoo all rolled into one. At Koala World, they have a "Cuddle a Koala" program, where you can actually go and hold the koalas! They are also home to the only blue eyed koala in captivity, Frankie.
Did you know???
* Koalas have fingerprints that are very similar to human fingerprints.
* Their diet consists of eucalyptus leaves.
* They sleep 16-18 hours a day.
* They usually eat for about 3 hours a day.
