Super Dads

In honor of Fathers' Day this coming Sunday, it's time to look at some great dads in the animal world.

Most people already know about the emperor penguin dad, which works hard to keep the egg and the chick safe and warm in the cold Antarctic, but did you know about these other amazing dads?

The seahorse is a unique animal in that it is the dad who gives birth to the babies.  You may have read the Eric Carle book, Mister Seahorse, which tells more about this amazing phenomenon.

This is a giant water bug dad, which carries and cares for up to 150 eggs until it is time for the babies to hatch.  Insects rarely care for their young, so this one is especially unusual!
