Written in 1964, Flat Stanley is a story about a boy, Stanley, who gets accidentally flattened by a falling bulletin board. Unhurt, but flattened, Stanley embarks on adventures in his new flattened state. On one of his adventures, his family mails him off in a large envelope to go on vacation and visit friends.
So.... that's what we do as well!
Each kid in the class makes a flattened version of himself or herself and gets sent off to visit friends and family on vacation. Then, we wait anxiously for the mail to arrive as they come back to tell us all about their adventures.

The original Flat Stanley series included the books Stanley and the Magic Lamp, Stanley in Space, Stanley's Christmas Adventure, Invisible Stanley, and Stanley, Flat Again!, and Stanley's adventures are being continued in a new series called Flat Stanley's Worldwide Adventures. There are also two Flat Stanley apps!
