Happy 75th Birthday!

Look who just turned 75!

It's the Wienermobile!  Have you ever seen this driving around town?  It's such a fun surprise to see it on the roads.  The Wienermobile has had a long history with the Oscar Mayer company.

The Wienermobile was created as a form of advertisement to sell Oscar Mayer products, specifically the hot dog, of course!  The Wienermobile was created in 1936, and it has changed quite a bit since the original.

You can see the history of the Wienermobile, all 10 versions, here.

Today, there are 7 Wienermobiles in different parts of the United States.  The driver of the Wienermobile is called a Hotdogger, who passes out mini whistles that look like the Wienermobile, called Wienerwhistles.

Want to drive the Wienermobile?  Ever year, the Oscar Mayer company holds a contest to choose 12 new Hotdoggers.  In order to become a Hotdogger, the person must be a senior in college, and the job lasts for one year.  There is an interview process, and it is a very special job!  If someone is chosen, they have to go to Hot Dog High to learn how to drive the car and to learn about the history of the company.

You can take a virtual tour of the inside of the Wienermobile from PictureBubbles.

Look for the Wienermobile in your neighborhood, and if you see it, make sure you wish it a happy 75th birthday!
